  • The Italian word for Christmas is Natale which comes from the Latin natum meaning "generated". In ecclesiastical Latin the noun “dies natalis" day of birth was used to indicate the anniversary of the birth of a saint or their death insofar that earthly departure in the Christian tradition takes on a meaning of birth to the afterlife. Natale therefore means "day of birth" and in particular it refers to the birthday of Jesus.
