An opera in four acts by Giacomo Puccini to an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. With its altogether innovative libretto and music, this masterpiece can only be extolled as passionate and vibrant with a kaleidoscope of characters and situations mirroring a rapidly transforming society.
The present production was especially created by Franco Zeffirelli for the 1991/’92 Opera Theatre season of Rome and in the maestro’s own words, this third version is the most faithful to Puccini’s original conception after 1963’s at La Scala and 1981’s at the Metropolitan.
