Estate Romana 2009
The jazz concert in Capidoglio on 20 June officially opens the “Estate Romana” or Roman Summer season. The four month programme of events is hosted in the centre and the suburbs, the piazzas and the lanes and along the Tiber in Rome.

This year has music, cinema, dance and book fairs, which when combined total 650 events with an average of 20 per day. Running in parallel are other established events like “Jazz at Villa Celimontana”, “All’Ombra del Colosseo” (Under the shadow of the Colosseum), “Opera at Caracalla’s Baths” and “Roma incontra il mondo” (Rome meets the world) to mention a few. Ample space has been given to internationally renowned artists and original initiatives like “Bruce Springsteen in concert” at the Olympic Stadium or “Biblioteche fuori di Sé” (Library on the move).

The programme has also included a series of initiates under the collective title “La Luna ha 40 anni” (The Moon is 40), which relives the conquest of a dream in celebrating the 40th anniversary of the lunar landings. Among the events we have “Luna bambina” (Luna baby) at Casina di Raffaello and “Urania. Stregati dalla Luna nelle Città delle storie disabitate” at Teatro India.

Roman traditions are also not forgotten as returning to the 2009 programme are the Festival of Saint John (24 June), the fireworks at Castel Sant'Angelo for the Festival of Saints Peter and Paul (29 June) and the Festival of the “Noantri” in Trastevere. (20 – 26 July).
