The White witch comes to Rome
Like every year, not to be missed this year is the epiphany market in the splendid Baroque setting of Piazza Navona. It has been one of the city’s most popular events for over 100 years but has its roots in even more distant times when the square hosted a crowed local market of produce from the roman countryside.

The colour of the goods were matched by the colourful distribution of the vendors, whose stands flowed around the curves of the piazza.
Today the market has truly become a full tourist attraction and is open between 8 December and epiphany each and every day from 10 AM to 9 PM.
Many, many stands of games, sweets, local handicrafts like nativity scenes but also street entertainers swathe the entire space of the square offering visitors the chance to Christmas shop in a truly Christmassy atmosphere.
The leading lady of the show is the Befana or white Witch, who on 6 January will be handing out sweets and lumps of coal to all the good and bad children who are in the square.
