The structure is designed mainly for football and athletics, but every now and then it is used for pop concerts and other events. The Olympic Stadium was built back in the 1930s, first renovated in the 1950s, and again in the 1960s for Rome’s Olympic Games.
Finally, it was completely rebuilt in preparation for the 1990 World Cup and currently has a capacity of 72,700 spectators. There are 2 giant screens and the original wooden seats were replaced between 2007 and 2008 with blue plastic ones. The roof of the Olympic stadium is made of two elements, internal and external rings that are held together by a radial tensile structure, whereas the floodlights were specially designed by Philips according to international standards.
Viale dei Gladiatori
The stadium is only open during competitions, sporting events and concerts.
