With an aim to cracking down on illegal tourist guides who often trap and swindle tourists in the capitol’s popular spots, Rome city council has launched a campaign to encourage Italian and foreign tourists to turn to qualified staff holding a tourist guide licence which has been issued by Rome’s provincial authorities.

Rome ranks 51st in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s global city liveability rating. The survey, based on the results of analysis of four categories (stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure) was carried out on one hundred and forty world metropolises, awarding each a mark ranging from 0 to 100.

Dal 18 al 21 febbraio il Dipartimento del Turismo del Comune di Roma sarà presente presso la stand dell'Atlazio alla BIT, Borsa Internazionale del Turismo, che si tiene ogni anno a Milano e che richiama un vastissimo numero di operatori del settore e di viaggiatori provenienti da 150 paesi. La BIT è un appuntamento annuale tanto atteso, che si conferma come la più grande esposizione mondiale del “prodotto Italia” e che si pone tra le prime fiere di riferimento per l’industria turistica mondiale.

Rome will again be participating at a number of international tourism fairs this year. The city with its own stand is going to the fairs held in the world’s principle cities. January will be a busy month as Rome Municipal Council will be present at the BTL, the international Tourism fair held in Lisbon. In its first visit, the team has four days to promote the image of Rome to the local Portuguese market, which has not been carefully explored but is certainly of strategic importance, moreover as a gateway to South American countries. On 15 January the Vice-Mayor with responsibilities for Tourism Sen. Mauro Cutrufo will be presenting the city’s programme for development and the short film “Ode to Rome” directed by Franco Zeffirelli.

Rome Municipal Council will be taking part at JOSP FEST, the International Festival of faith based travel, with its own stand. The event puts meetings between different peoples, holy sites and religious/cultural traditions in the spotlight.
